The Story

These pants are from a series inspired by ceramic artist Shoji Kamoda’s work “Square Bowl, Silver Glaze.” They recreate the bowl’s substantial texture using a textile finished with silver foil. Based on the “FLAT” series made with plant-based polyester, the pants were produced to become a rounded square shape when unfolded, like the square bowl when viewed from above. By applying foil not to the fabric itself but to the outer part of the garment in its flattened form, shading in the foil’s adhesion was created, expressing the subtle wavering of the square bowl. In addition, like the bowl, which has a refined look with precise contours and sharp edges while still retaining traces of handwork, the pants are likewise finished with a natural form that is not overly linear.
